What’s Your Dream?

Getting Started

We all have dreams. The ability to dream is one of our unique abilities as human beings. We can look into the future, imagine a bigger, brighter, better life and world, and then return to the present to make that vision a reality. It is an extraordinary gift... and yet often this ability goes unemployed. We get caught up in the day-to-day drudgery of our lives and loose sight of our dreams... and when we turn our back on our dreams we turn our back on ourselves.

Some of our dreams are small and some of them are unfathomably large. Sometimes we run toward our dreams and sometimes we run away from them. Dreams: we love them and we fear them, we yearn for them and we avoid them.

What are your dreams, and what are you doing about them? Regardless of where you are in your journey, I'd like to help. Nothing animates the human person like the pursuit of a dream. Chasing our dreams brings us to life. We are driven by our dreams. But sometimes we just stop dreaming, either because of a broken dream or because our dreams seem impossible to us. This is a tough place to be.

Over the past decade I have had the tremendous privilege of traveling in more than fifty countries and speaking to more than 3 million people, and I have discovered that our common denominator is our desire to build a future bigger than our past, to expand our horizons, to chase our dreams. But in my travels I have also discovered that millions of people are miserable at work, miserable in their primary relationship, and sometimes just miserable with their lives. It was these encounters and observations that led me to write The Dream Manager, a story about finding the connection between the work we do everyday and our dreams.

I want to spend the rest of my life helping people identify, chase, and achieve their dreams... and I want to invite you to join me in that mission. So start now. Here are four things you can do this week to start living your dreams... and helping others to do the same:

1. Make a list of 10 dreams you would like to accomplish in the next five years (your Dream List).

2. Start a conversation with your family, friends, and colleagues about their dreams... and yours.

3. Reflect on your Dream List for three minutes each day.

4. Do one thing each day to further just one of the dreams on your list.

So, what are your dreams... to travel in Europe, have a baby, start a business, write a book, spend more time with your children, look and feel healthier, fall wildly in love, learn to speak Italian... or French... or Spanish, learn to play the guitar... or the piano, see U2 live, live long enough to know your grandchildren...

It's time to start dreaming again! Even if you don't read the book or share one of your dreams with us... do the first four steps. Dreams play a powerful role in our lives and our relationships. What's your dream?

Starting a Dream Manager® Program

Every workplace needs a Dream Manager® Program, whether it is something formal or organic. You can start your own today. Gather five or six people together once a month or once a week, have lunch together, talk about your dreams, write your dreams down, and share with each other what you are going to do in the coming week or month to further one or two of those dreams. It's that simple. But don't confuse simple with easy, because it will require real discipline to remain faithful to the process. The more faithful you are to the process, the more powerful you will find it.

Everyday we are hearing stories about how different people are starting the program organically in their workplace. We applaud this and want to celebrate this. One company asked each employee to offer to help their colleagues pursue a particular dream. One employee had run fifteen marathons and offered to help anyone who wanted to run a marathon. Another employee has a passion for traveling in Europe and offered to help anyone whose dream it was to travel in Europe. Yet another member of the team spoke eleven languages fluently and offered to help anyone whose dream it was to learn another language.

There are hundreds of ways to apply the lessons from The Dream Manager to our lives and the workplace. If you come up with a unique way, please share it with us... so that we can share it with others, by sending an email to info@floydconsulting.com.

We realize that some companies will want to implement The Dream Manager Program in a more formal sense. Floyd Consulting has developed a comprehensive program for companies large and small. We can send you a Dream Manager for a couple of days a month, or we can help you find, hire, and train your own Dream Manager®. If you have an interest in exploring that possibility, please visit this link and provide us with your contact information and one of our team will be in touch.

Send free e-Cards

The Dream Manager teaches us that we all need to be encouraged to identify our dreams and pursue our dreams... so we want to help you with that. There are two e-cards provided here in this section which you can personalize and add your own message to. The first is to encourage someone you know who is trying to accomplish a dream. The second is to thank someone who has helped you to accomplish one of your dreams. Gratitude is a thing of beauty.
